Our Team
Since the 2026 season, Audi has been competing in the FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
The new team has three locations. The Motorsport Competence Center of Audi in Neuburg (Germany) is considered one of the most modern of its kind in Europe. The Formula 1 factory of Audi Motorsport AG in Hinwil (Switzerland) is known for its innovative technologies and passion for racing. The Audi Motorsport Technology Center in UK is in its launch phase and growing continuously. Our Power Unit comes from Neuburg, while Hinwil is responsible for the development of the chassis and race operations.
What you need? The mindset of an athlete. If you are someone for whom giving up isn’t an option and limits are just something to be overcome, you can bring Vorsprung durch Technik to Formula 1 with us. Become part of this unique project and make motorsport history.
Our internships as well as thesis projects last at least four months, are full-time, and we offer fair compensation.
This position is scheduled to start from September 2026. To apply, we require a current CV, relevant certificates, a certificate of enrollment, and, if applicable, your university’s examination regulations as well as an up-to-date, official transcript of records. You are also welcome to tell us more about yourself in a motivation letter.
Important Information
Applicants from the EU require a valid ID card or passport; applicants from non-EU countries require a residence permit and, if applicable, a work permit.
Please note that all theses are subject to a confidentiality clause, and an additional non-disclosure agreement with the university supervisor may be required.
This position is to be filled at Audi Formula Racing GmbH in Neuburg (Germany).
Within the Performance & Simulation – Combustion Engines department, we develop the thermodynamic concept of high-performance power units and validate them experimentally on state-of-the-art single-cylinder test benches.
Your Mission
As an intern in single-cylinder testing, you will operate at the core of our combustion system and mechanical development. By utilizing our single-cylinder engine, you will analyze and optimize combustion and mechanical concepts prior to their transfer to multicylinder-engine configurations. Your results will directly feed into the performance and efficiency development of our racing powertrain.
Focus: Single Cylinder testing
In this internship, you will support pre-development activities through single-cylinder engine testing. You will work on engine calibration maps, analyze measurement data, and assist in optimizing engine control parameters. In doing so, you will gain insight into engine management systems and learn how thermodynamic and mechanical requirements are implemented in practice. The development and maintenance of application tools (MATLAB, Python) will complete your scope of responsibilities.
Typical Tasks
- Planning, preparation, and execution of single-cylinder engine tests on the test bench in line with the performance development program
- Operation and monitoring of test bench measurement systems
- Evaluation and interpretation of thermodynamic and mechanical measurement data
- Analysis of measurement data and correlation of test results with full-engine and simulation models (0D/1D, 3D CFD)
- Co-development of test procedures, data analysis scripts, and automation solutions
- Preparation of technical reports and presentation of results to the engineering team
Your Profile
- You have successfully completed your undergraduate studies in a technical field such as mechanical engineering, automotive engineering, fluid mechanics, or materials science
- You possess initial knowledge of the operating principles of internal combustion engines (mechanics and thermodynamics)
- Ideally, you have gained first practical experience in operating internal combustion engine test benches, preferably with single-cylinder engines
- You have initial experience in cylinder pressure indication and thermodynamic analysis
- You bring knowledge of engine control systems and calibration processes
- You are proficient in at least one high-level programming language (e.g., MATLAB or Python) and are capable of processing and analyzing large datasets
- A goal-oriented, independent, and structured way of working characterizes your approach
- You demonstrate strong implementation skills as well as a high level of motivation and initiative
- Teamwork, strong communication skills, and the ability to present technical results clearly are among your strengths
- Fluent German and/or English skills, both written and spoken, complete your profile
